Wine Review: The Cabernet Sauvignon grapes
for Butcherblock’s reserve label grew in northern California’s Lake County, a
rugged and scenic appellation that’s experiencing a burgeoning renaissance for
the royal red grape. Cultural influences from Napa, Sonoma, Mendocino and
beyond coalesce in this bottle while its rich flavors of blood orange, spicy
dried cherries, cedar and cinnamon act as the perfect spice rub for your next
meaty meal.
My Review: Heavy on the raspberry/blackberry nose. Very
peppery, chocolate, raspberry, and dried dark fruits. Never a fan of the flavor
that sticks around! Tannins are smooth and soft. Also, smelled and tasted a
little bit of blueberry and maybe cranberries.
Extra Notes: Had with
a friend and her parents. Definitely a nice red! Probably wouldn’t buy it for
myself because of the price, but maybe in a few years when I’m not on a college
kid’s budget!
